Around for more than a century now, the Arts and Crafts style continues to be popular. Paolini, author of two books on kitchen cabinets and an expert carpenter, harks back to the traditional in this selection of projects. Furniture ranges from a bookcase to chairs and storage—nine projects in all. Each design has construction details, an exploded view with measurements, and a materials list but no documentation of needed tools. There are thorough instructions but certainly no hand-holding. The selected pieces are beautiful, authentic, and desirable. With the exception of a frame, the projects are extremely complex. The book is similar to Darrell Peart's In the Greene & Greene Style. VERDICT Highly recommended for strong intermediate to more expert woodworkers who are well equipped to take on these beautiful projects, as there are no basic instructions for tool use or general techniques, though special tips appear throughout.
