INTRODUCTION

The interior decorator finds himself today, in recently built homes, facing an absolutely new problem for which the spirit of innovation and creativity can flow freely; but it is necessary before building a foundation (a framework realized in a spirit of simplicity) to adapt completely to the demands of his clients — by following the highest standards for the most diminutive space, and adding the need for comfort, the interior decorator must therefore come to terms with the lost space ... it is necessary to count each square meter of the construction area — we cannot live in an antique store in which the components are purely decorative. We must at least try to lay out living spaces in ways that provide the maximum comfort in the minimum of space — luxury and grandeur are passé. Oversized furniture is disappearing: a great revolution is taking place, as each aspect of personal furnishings must change to reflect a definite goal, and no longer represents, as in the past, a museum piece that no longer serves a purpose. The busy, active modern man, who perhaps spends less time in his home, expects that the shape and material of his personal surroundings reflect the needs of his imagination — only he knows the requirements of his personal life; his indulgences will consist of surroundings that are adapted to his physical and spiritual needs.
