Overview

Have you ever been the new kid in school? How scary it is with no friends, not sure where to go or what to do. Friendship is so important, no matter what our age. A true friend is always there for you with respect, help and hope. Everyone needs friends, and everyone needs to make friends!

Bullying has been around for generations. Someone bigger and stronger intimidates or influences someone smaller, weak or different. While many have been bullied in school over the years, the current generation is dealing with an escalation of bullying like never before. Inflicting fear and pain on others has turned into sport for some kids.

This story strikes both friendship and bullying issues. Pull up a comfy chair and let the farm animals tell the story we all need to read. Strongly unique in personalities and lifestyle, the animals offer all of us a valuable lesson that despite their differences, they have opened their hearts to accept each other!

Shouldn't we all strive to live this way?

About the Author

Raised on an Iowa Century family farm, Waterloo native Kris Klingaman has had a genuine life-long love of animals, especially farm animals.
Kris raised two children, Josie & Cord (aka Digger), while developing an extensive career training and showing Quarter and Paint horses, combined with a rewarding 30 years of professional horse judging.
One of her most loved horses was Dainty Affects, better known as Dolly. A State and National Champion, Dolly was shown and loved by Kris, her children, and a multitude of riders that Kris invited to experience the talents of a great horse. After horse show retirement, Dolly became the superstar of the Aspire Therapeutic Riding Program in Waterloo. Her gentle, kind nature was enjoyed by many physically challenged riders.
The unique relationship of horse-goat-cat was a true-life event for 17 years. Dolly needed a stable mate, thus entered Blaze, a 4-H goat project for Kris’ son, in 2000. That same year, a green-eyed older cat, nearing her five-month stay before shelter termination, selected Kris to take her home. April blissfully joined Dolly and Blaze, fitting perfectly into her position as Queen of the barn. The trio was inseparable. Their remarkable respect and devotion for each other was easily recognizable. Sadly, Blaze experienced aging health deterioration, and a few months later, Dolly, at age 27 developed health issues. Both are buried, side by side, in the pasture on the farm. At this 2017 writing, April Cat remains as the best barn cat on the planet and Kris is her best friend!
These wonderful animals lived their friendship story daily. A contribution to their longevity. Strongly unique in personalities and lifestyle, the offered all of US a valuable lesson: despite their differences, they opened their hearts to accept and love each other!
