About the Author

Kathleen Patrick is a poet and fiction writer whose writing has appeared in several literary and commercial magazines and fourteen anthologies. Airmail: A Story of War in Poems was published in 2022. Her poetry has received Honorable Mention from the Academy of American Poets. Mercy, a coming-of-age novel, was published in 2023. She taught middle school language arts for over twenty years. Anxiety in the Wilderness is her first book of short stories. She lives in Minnesota and enjoys reading, traveling and watching college basketball. She was once the hula hoop champion of Osceola County.

A book of short stories that can only be described as bittersweet. Some parts definitely pulled at my heartstrings. The author herself said the book was written over a long time period, This comes across in the different scenarios in which the characters are involved in. Each a little exceptional tale of its own. I especially liked the crossover of characters. I am not patiently waiting for the full novel set in the Iowa wilderness.
