Chudakov Alexander was born 2 February 1938 in the Kazakh SSR Shushinsk at family of teachers. Russian literary critic and novelist, an expert on Chekhov. In 1960 he graduated from the Philological Faculty of Moscow State University. From 1964 he worked at the Institute of World Literature, taught at the Moscow State University, Institute of Literature. Doctor of Philology (1983). Since 1987 he works as Visiting professor at Hamburg, Michigan, Middlebury, Los Angeles, Princeton University, the Institute of Foreign Languages in Seoul. Published as a historian of Russian literature of since 1959 in respected literary journals. In addition, he has published over two hundred articles on the history of Russian literature. Made his debut as a writer-idyllic novel "Lies haze on the old steps" in the magazine Znamya. Novel Lies haze on the old stage by the decision of the jury Russian Booker voted the best Russian novel of the first decade of the new century.

Но потом несколько раз еще тверже говорил противоположное: Ни в коем случае не можем мы исчезнуть после смерти. Бессмертие - факт. Это - своеобразная микромодель подхода Чехова к таким явлениям, как смерть, жизнь, бессмертие. Он как бы допускает возможность двух противоположных решений. По свойствам своей личности, натуры, Чехов склонялся к вере в мировую гармонию, определяемую высшей волей, хотел в нее поверить. Но честность и трезвость его как мыслителя и художника была такова, что он не мог закрыть глаза на дисгармонию окружающей действительности. Мир представал в его восприятии и изображении как поле движения и столкновения противостоящих сил, и именно в этом прежде всего он видел его сложность, непостигаемую до конца человеческим разумом. Он жаждет единства, гармонии - и трезво осознает ее недостижимость, во всяком случае в современных ему условиях. Мечта и мысль Чехова были обращены к человеку подвижнического труда. Если перечислить даже не полно, что делал в своей жизни сам Чехов, то можно подумать, что речь идет об общественном деятеле.
