Painstaking effort was taken to create an eBook specifically formatted for the nook. There is a linked TOC for ease of navigation. Some minor corrections were made to the text, but it was largely left as is. In addition to the original text, I have included a biographical introduction and an extensive Selected Works section.

To say that Oscar Wilde was an enigma would be a gross understatement. His enigmatic persona was eloquently laid out in Wilde’s only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, for anyone to examine. With Walter Pater/Henry Wotton on one shoulder and John Ruskin/Basil Hallward on the other in an angel vs. devil debate, it’s no wonder Oscar Wilde/Dorian Gray found himself in the middle being pulled to and fro. It’s a toss-up as to whether Pater was the devil and Ruskin the angel, or vice-versa.
This leads us to question who Oscar Wilde was. In Oscar Wilde: The Story of an Unhappy Friendship, long-time friend, Robert H. Sherard, presents a first-hand account of Wilde, his eccentricities, and his decidedly dual nature based on a friendship that lasted nearly until the end of Wilde’s life.
Good or bad? Kind or mean? Insecure or arrogant? Can you decide who Oscar Wilde was?
