Overview

This collection of the first five Anne Shirley novels is sure to please you. They are chock full of humorous and romantic stories that are suitable for young girls. Formatted specifically for the NOOK with an interactive table of contents, this volume contains the following unabridged, original novels:
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
When Matthew Cuthbert goes to meet the train and pick up his new adopted son, he is surprised to find a little red-headed girl. Not knowing what else to do, he brings her home. By the time they get there, she has already wormed her way into his heart.
ANNE OF AVONLEA
The second chapter in the life of Anne Shirley. This book follows Anne from the age of 16 to 18, during the two years that she teaches at Avonlea school. It includes many of the characters from Anne of Green Gables, as well as new ones like Mr. Harrison, Miss Lavendar Lewis, Paul Irving, and the twins Dora and Davy.
ANNE OF THE ISLAND
Anne leaves Green Gables, and her work as a teacher in Avonlea, to pursue her original dream (which she gave up in "Anne of Green Gables"), to take further education at Redmond College in Nova Scotia. Gilbert Blythe and Charlie Sloane are there as well, as are Anne's friends from Queens's College, Priscilla Grant and Stella Maynard. During her first week of school, Anne befriends Philippa Gordon, a beautiful and lighthearted girl from Anne's birthplace, which is Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia.
ANNE OF WINDY POPLARS
Anne of Windy Poplars tells about the three years between Anne's graduation from Redmond College and her marriage to Gilbert Blythe. Anne has taken a job as the principal at Summerside High School, where she also teaches. She lives in a large house called Windy Poplars with two elderly widows, Aunt Kate and Aunt Chatty, plus their housekeeper, Rebecca Dew, and their cat, Dusty Miller. During her time in Summerside, Anne must learn to manage many of Summerside's inhabitants, including the clannish and resentful Pringle family, her bitter colleague Katherine Brooke, and others of Summerside's more eccentric residents.
ANNE’S HOUSE OF DREAMS
This book chronicles Anne's early married life, as she and her childhood sweetheart Gilbert Blythe begin to build their life together. The book starts with Anne's wedding to Gilbert, which is very small and takes place in the Green Gables orchard. After Anne and Gilbert's wedding, they move to a house that Anne has long anticipated as her "house of dreams", in Four Winds Point, an area near the village of the Glen St. Mary.

About the Author

Lucy Maud Montgomery CBE (November 30, 1874 – April 24, 1942), called "Maud" by family and friends and publicly known as L.M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. Anne of Green Gables was an immediate success. The central character, Anne, an orphaned girl, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following. The first novel was followed by a series of sequels with Anne as the central character. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels as well as 500 short stories and poems. Because many of the novels were set on Prince Edward Island, Canada and the Canadian province became literary landmarks. By the way, CBE is Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
