About the Author

Nongo Mokonzo, the author of Animals of our Land, is a wife and mother of 6 beautiful children.
Raised in London, she originates from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bilingual in both, English and Lingala, Nongo found it almost impossible to find bilingual books featuring both languages that she could read to her children. She would often find her children asking for translations of English words into Lingala, predominantly animals that they would see at the Zoo. To her surprise, Nongo could not answer their questions, and so she set out on a journey to find answers.
Through her thorough research, Nongo found a surprising lack of the information that she needed, and so took it upon herself to write and create Animals of our Land with an aim to spread the knowledge and history of her birth country to both her children, and children around the world.
Ensuring that both she and her children understand their heritage, the Lingala language is extremely important to Nongo, and her hope is that she can give all children the opportunity to explore their own cultural backgrounds after reading her debut bilingual kids novel.
