Introduction to the Angels of the Kingdom

The universe is a macrocosm of creative energy and power, and every man, woman, and child is the epitome of this totality of the cosmos. Within your individualized energy field, the microcosm called you, are twenty-two Causal Powers, or angels, that control your conscious behavior and govern the manifestation of all forms and experiences in your personal life. Their existence has been taught since the beginning of spiritual brotherhoods and philosophical societies thousands of years ago. In ancient Egypt the twenty-two Powers were shown as hieroglyphs representing the laws of all phenomena, and one of the volumes saved from the burning library of Alexandria contained detailed descriptions of these angels.

This universal knowledge was pictured symbolically as the twenty-two major trumps of the tarot, a pack of seventy-eight mystical cards that were discovered in Arabia by the Knights Templars—a secret order of warrior monks who played a major role in the crusades. According to Manly P. Hall, founder of The Philosophical Research Society, the Templars took the cards back to Europe and, “to avoid persecution, concealed the arcane meaning of the symbols by introducing the leaves of their magical book ostensibly as a device for amusement and gambling.”

These angels can also be found in the Tablet of Isis, which formed the altar before which Plato was initiated into the Greater Mysteries in the Great Pyramid of Egypt. On the tablet, also called the Bembine Table, appear carved figures called “vehicles for the distribution of the creative influences … the divine creatures that aid the Father Mind … the gods of the spheres.”

They are found in esoteric astrology, too, as represented by the twelve signs of the zodiac, the sun, the moon, and the eight planets (Earth not included), for a total of twenty-two. These are the living Governers of Life, each controlling a Gate, or opening, leading to the phenomenal world—conditioning and determining all outer expression.

The Divine Agents are also found in the study of Cabbalism, the Secret Doctrine of Israel. Here they are known as the twenty-two sounds produced by God to be his ministering angels, established to govern all outer form. And they are the angels called the “reapers of the harvest” in Matthew 13:39, and the “mighty angels” of Christ in Second Thessalonians 1:7.

In the wisdom teachings these Causal Powers are called by many names including Agents, angels, Conscious Thoughtforms, Creative Energies, Devas, Fathers, Fountains, Gates, Governors, Hands of God, Lords, Shining Ones—and more recently in the analytical psychology of Carl Jung—archetypes. I prefer the term angels—those, according to the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary, who “guard and guide and direct the natural forces of mind and body, which have in them the future of the whole man.”

According to H. K. Challoner, an English artist and esoteric philosopher,

The Christians have always believed in incorporeal beings such as angels, the Hindu Yogis and mystics in devas.… [They] are not only vitally involved in the ordering of our destiny, but are the wielders of mighty spiritual forces employed in the very building and sustaining of the Cosmos itself. The devas, in fact, may best be described as centers of force and intelligence who, under the direction of yet greater intelligences, carry out the functions of those particular offices to which they have been allocated. Indeed they are ever ready to aid and give to [the individual] according to the measure of his receptivity.…

To them all is vibration. It is their language, their keynote, the manifestation of God Himself. They dwell in a realm of ecstatic beauty and love, a realm of music visible in glittering, transient shapes, of colour audible in waves of exquisite sound; of perpetually whirling atoms of matter, changing, coalescing, separating in response to the propulsions of the creative energy which the devas live solely to express.

Edwin C. Steinbrecher, an astrologer, metaphysician, and author of The Inner Guide Meditation, says that these are “living energies that contain ideas and information, specific patterns of instinctual behavior and thought. They are the energies which somehow attach themselves, without our conscious awareness, to everything we meet in the world we call real. [They] are the life energies that pour out of each of us unceasingly night and day … influencing everyone in our lives and causing us to be influenced in return.”

You may wonder at this point why I call these forces angels—particularly since they are capable of expressing themselves either positively or negatively. Look at it this way: The Causal Powers are extensions of the Spirit of God within each individual. They are divine thoughtforms operating under the Law of Free Will, which means that they are subject to the energy that we are consciously or unconsciously radiating. And through the adulteration of fear, guilt, anger, futility, and other characteristics of ego, we can literally change their nature. We can divert their divine intentions and restrain and paralyze their expressions.

Each angel has a cosmic duty to function as a vortex, through which it emits the true nature of its being—abundance, loving relationships, success, harmony, or whatever its specific assignment may be. Its role is to serve you, which means that you can override its primary nature and function and create your own reality for it to follow.

Remember that the nature of the angels represents all that is good, true, and beautiful, and unless their energies are defiled by the ego, you will experience those optimal qualities in your life. When your consciousness is attuned to the angel’s higher vibration, you will be loved, loving, creative, prosperous, energetic, decisive, wise, intuitive, understanding, joyful, victorious, harmonious, discerning, confident, strong, patient, protected, courageous, imaginative, enlightened, whole, successful, anchored in Truth and wonderfully free—as you were created to be.

So if your “reality” includes problems, restrictions, limitations, and character weaknesses, it simply means that you are projecting false images onto these living energies. They in turn replay those misconceptions on the outer screen of the phenomenal world, and they will continue to project a negative appearance until the energy of manifestation is changed at the point of expression within your consciousness.

Before you meet with each angel to solicit cooperation, there are four preliminary steps that are of critical importance. If you have created a mutation in any particular angel through projections of fear, judgment, condemnation, or guilt, direct contact now could well lead to intense internal conflict. A healing in consciousness must be the first priority, a cleansing of mind and heart so that all detrimental projections can be withdrawn and the energy blocks dissolved.

To quote Challoner again, “man stands indeed upon the threshold of discoveries, of revelations, of the attainment of powers such as have not been known since the days of the Atlantean Race. And herein lies his danger. Unless, this time, he is morally strong enough to control these forces and develop that spirituality of outlook essential to all those who wield great power, once again he will be overwhelmed.… Should any seek to use the devas with deliberate intent for selfish or destructive purpose, let him beware!”

Working with the Angels can be a wonderful adventure in cocreation, so let’s begin the healing process now by first forgiving yourself for all your miscreations. Actually it really wasn’t you who miscreated; it was a false belief, or thoughtform, called ego which is nothing but a part of the great illusion in your life—yet ego-action can leave emotional wounds that must be healed. In forgiving yourself you are simply calling in the Energy of Correction, the Law of Adjustment, to transmute the old erroneous patterns and eliminate the ghosts of another time.

Scan your consciousness, and if something from your past comes up that triggers a feeling of shame or self-condemnation, bring the whole scenario into full view and cast the entire memory-image upon the Love of God within you. Do not attempt to push it further down out of mind. That is repression. Give it up to Spirit and let it be burned away. Keep pulling up all the old sin-fear-guilt roots and tossing them on the Holy Fire within, and keep at it until you feel clean and clear again. Understand that it is impossible to release any thought or feeling to Spirit for transmutation without divine action taking place.

The second step in the restoration of relations between you and the angels is to look at the personality problems that you may be experiencing—fear, deception, dishonesty, anger, arrogance, confusion, stubbornness, feelings of futility, jealousy, impatience, resentment, low self-worth, and so on. Also take note of the negative appearances in your life, such as financial lack, family discord, sexual problems, inability to have lasting relationships, sickness and ill health, legal challenges, and business and career failures. This evaluation will help you to see which angels have suffered the greatest adulteration. (See the “negative traits” and “energy blocks” in Appendix A.)

Once you have your trouble spots pinpointed, you are ready for the third step: a total surrender of your mind, emotions, body, and personal world to the Spirit within—holding nothing back and giving up everything to and for God. Cut the cords on all negative personality traits from the analysis above and empty yourself of everything that even resembles the third-dimensional human nature. Remember that as you do this, the Law of Adjustment, the correcting principle of a person’s divine nature, a purifying energy radiating from one’s spiritual self, immediately goes into action. Everything that you truly and sincerely surrender is corrected on the inner planes of consciousness, and the ego projections are withdrawn from the angels.

Once you begin to feel more of the spiritual vibration in consciousness, you are ready for the final step before making contact with the angels, which is to meditate and bring into your awareness the presence of the indwelling Spirit of God. This must be done before attempting any visit to the inner kingdom. Contemplate the protecting power of your Holy Self and feel the “everlasting arms” surrounding you. Then ask Spirit to guide you into deep inner consciousness—to personally escort you to meet with the particular angel of your choice. Feel the presence of Spirit’s Love, Wisdom, and Power enfolding you for the journey within, and see and feel Light all around you as you walk through a winding tunnel.
