While visiting Disneyland seven-year-old Marley wanders off from her parents because she wants to again ride the canal boats of Storybook Land. She is found by two cast members who comfort her and arrange to have her parents found. After falling asleep in the arms of the Snow White cast member, the spirits of two famous children's books authors create in her a dream of Storybook Land. There she meets, from The Wind in the Willows, Mr. Toad, Badger, Mole, Ratty along with many other characters from classic Children's stories
. Thus begins the first story which sets the premise of the eight other adventures she has while visiting her private and unique Storybook Land. Beginning in the second story, her guardian angel is in the form of the dodo bird from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In each of the nine stories she learns a moral lesson. The tone of the stories is humorous and light. Frequent references are made to Disneyland, particularly as it existed in the late fifties and sixties.
