Overview

With the fast pace of developments in quantum technologies, it is more than ever necessary to make the new generation of students in science and engineering familiar with the key ideas behind such disruptive systems. This book intends to fill such a gap between experts and non-experts in the field by providing the reader with the basic tools needed to understand the latest developments in quantum communications and its future directions. This is not only to expand the audience knowledge but also to attract new talents to this flourishing field. To that end, the book as a whole does not delve into much detail and most often suffices to provide some insight into the problem in hand. The primary users of the book will be students in science and engineering in their final year of undergraduate studies, or early years of their post-graduate programmes.

About the Author

Mohsen Razavi received his BSc and MS (with honours) in electrical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. From August 1999 to June 2001, he was a member of the research staff at the Iran Telecommunications Research Centre, working on all optical CDMA networks and the possible employment of optical amplifiers in such systems. He joined the Research Laboratory of Electronics, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in 2001 to pursue his PhD in electrical engineering and computer science, which he completed in 2006.

He continued his work at MIT as a Post-doctoral Associate during Fall 2006, before joining the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo as a Post-doctoral Fellow in January 2007. Since September 2009, he has been a faculty member at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds. Razavi is a recipient of the MIT-HP Alliance Fellowship and the Marie-Curie International Reintegration Grant. He chaired and organized the first International Workshop on Quantum Communication Networks in 2014.
