Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill was born in Lancashire, England, in 1952. Her parents were originally from the Kerry Irish-speaking area, and it was there and in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary that she was raised. She received her third level education in University College, Cork and it was during her time there that she began to publish her poetry in the magazine, 'Innti'. She has published four collections of poetry, 'An Dealg Droigin' (1981), 'Féar Suaithinseach' (1988), Feis (1991) and 'Cead Aighnis' (1998). A selection of her poetry is also available in English, translated by various poets, including Seamus Heaney and Paul Muldoon, in the collections 'Pharoah's Daughter' (1990), 'The Astrakhan Cloak' (1992) and 'The Water Horse' (1999). She is married with children and lives in Dublin, Ireland.
