About the Author

Asma Elgouacem is a retired ESL teacher with more than forty years of experience. She came to the United States with her husband and three daughters from Algeria twenty one years ago. Her passion for teaching coupled with her journey as an immigrant helped her build meaningful relationships with her adult English learners. Asma not only taught English, Civics and American culture during her tenure, but also guided and counseled numerous students through their transition as new comers to the United States.

Asma lived in several countries and is proficient in Arabic, English, and French. Her identity ebbs and flows from her native country Algeria and her current home, the United States. Her unique perspective has brought to bear a multitude of stories that she has only begun to uncover.
