Amour, Wine and Real Estate in Southern France
The allure of living in Southern France appealed to artist Marques Vickers for most of his life. Following the profitable sale of his northern California home during the real estate boom of 2005, his life-changing dream became both possible and affordable.

Vickers and his then wife Claudia shed their structured lifestyle and routine to re-write the script for their lives. They moved to the French Midi (Languedoc-Roussillon) region of southern France. They escaped their fast-paced California lifestyles to a radically different culture and slower tempo. Their source of income was the renovating and flipping of two ancient stone village houses.

In between each renovation, the first major casualty 18 was their seven-year marriage.

"Amour, Wine and Real Estate in Southern France" is a compilation of 45 written vignettes documenting Vickers personal journey of urban escapism while painting an intimate portrait of French rural life. Vickers' two renovations were located in the Corbières region of the Languedoc wedged between the cities of Narbonne, Perpignan and Carcassonne and the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The Languedoc boasts the world's largest vineyard acreage, castles and abundant ruins dating from the Roman occupation.

His wealth of human-interest stories encompasses the people, quality of life and local traditions disappearing with 21st century globalization. The lifestyle and mentality is in stark contrast to urban Paris and most Anglo-American assumptions about the French.

Share Vickers' insight, love and enthusiasm into an escape and region of the world most traveler's only dream of exploring. The book offers practical advice based on experience about the realities of investing and renovating Southern French real estate and the often confounding French bureaucracy.
