About the Author

Cheryl Denton became an expert on living with PTSD over the years through her own challenges with childhood abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, a motor vehicle accident, and a stalking. She has parented five children, all diagnosed with PTSD, which resulted from childhood abuse. Her son, a US Marine, developed PTSD following a deployment in Iraq.

According to Cheryl, we often discover a powerful gift as a result of our suffering. She believes that God used her pain to prepare her to encourage survivors of abuse and trauma. Through her writing and workshops, she instills hope in others who are struggling to overcome the pain of their past.

She wrote the first book in The Darkfire Series, Among the Ashes, to give readers a glimpse into the mind of a person suffering from PTSD. The second mystery, When Hope Was Gone, addresses the challenges of parenting a child with PTSD. The third novel, Losing Faith, portrays a woman who develops PTSD when a stalker terrorizes her. Mrs. Denton writes all of these novels out of her personal experiences. Her Spiritual Growth Series gently guides survivors through the depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem which many experience.

As a writer, Cheryl Denton has contributed a large body of work through her blog for survivors of abuse and trauma, http://www.cheryldenton.com/blog. Much of her writing follows the theme of rising above life’s challenges. Over the years, she has also worked as a magazine editor and book editor.

In spite of the trials she has encountered, Cheryl Denton has never given up hope. With a smile and words of encouragement, she leads others to find ways to thrive. Early in her career, she worked as a teacher who took the time to listen to children who'd been abused, using her writing skills to develop intervention programs for at-risk students. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, as well as the University of Central Florida, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

An active member of her faith community, Cheryl Denton has served as a Stephen Ministry Leader, supervising other Stephen Ministers whom she taught skills in active listening and compassionate support.

When she is not writing, Cheryl Denton is speaking to groups about learning how to thrive, in spite of the challenges of life. She developed the Humor for Healing Workshops to help survivors and their caregivers cope with life's challenges
