Penny Wells is visiting her life-long friend, Trudy King, at her home, Hilltop, in Laguna Beach, California. When the doorbell rings, a life-altering letter addressed to Lynn, the young violinist virtuoso who lives with her, is delivered.
Trudy gasps when she hears Lynn has inherited the 'Haus du Violin' estate in East Berlin from her great uncle, Ernst Weber. The house, a castle, is filled with art and valuables with historical significance left behind from Jews fleeing persecution during the second world war.
