About the Author

Álvaro Rodríguez has been writing since childhood and, in fact, did his best work when he was 11. With filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, he is the co-writer of the wishing-rock children’s movie SHORTS (2009), and MACHETE (2010) starring Danny Trejo and Robert DeNiro, and is the screen-writer of the vampire western FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE HANGMAN’S DAUGHTER (2000). His short stories (including a Pushcart Prize nominee) have appeared in The Mesquite Review, flashquake, BorderSenses and Popcorn Fiction.

David Bowles was born in 1970 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, but has lived the majority of his life in South Carolina and the Río Grande Valley of south Texas, where he presently resides with his wife and children. Since 1994 he has worked in public education, as a teacher, administrator and university professor. A writer of young adult fiction, Latino-themed magical realism and politically speculative science fiction, Bowles has launched his D'Angelo Chronicles through VAO Publishing, a division of Valley Artistic Outreach. In April of 2011, Absey & Co. published The Seed: Stories from the River's Edge, a collection of YA short stories the author collaborated with his wife, Angélica Maldonado, to create.
