Overview

While quite proficient with its skills and ideas, Cadillac Blindside's The Allegory of Death and Fame is a casualty of having a sound too similar to its peers, namely the Get Up Kids. However, there are differences between the two acts, as The Allegory of Death and Fame shows increasing skill at lyric writing and incorporating it into song structure to produce a mix which evokes emotion without being overly cheesy or melodramatic. Vocally, there isn't a little boy quality which one might expect, rather a gruffness and firm vocal stance is taken, yet not to the point of being overwhelming. Think somewhere between the Get Up Kids and Hot Water Music as to a clue where the vocals are coming in at. All that being said, there still isn't enough creativity or originality to save this album from going down as exactly what it is: a catchy, fun emo-pop album that reeks of the Get Up Kids. ~ Kurt Morris
