About the Author

Dick King-Smith was a dairy farmer for twenty years, but he always kept pigs. He said "I am devoted to them. Everything I say about them is absolutely true."


Anita Jeram had never drawn a pig before, but learned about pigs by watching them on farms."I'd love to own one," she says now, "but I don‘t think my family would approve."

Using a picture-book format, he flawlessly interlards fond reminiscences of porkers he has known with interesting facts about them that are sure to keep children absorbed. His tone is affectionate, amusing, and informative. Jeram's pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations, done in soft, earthy colors, are a warm match for the text. They emanate gentle good humor and are spaced attractively.
