Overview

All of Grace is wonderful, evangelistic presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The jailer cried "What must I do to be saved?" In this thoroughly readable book Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon, the "Prince of Preachers" answers the question of what must a person do to be saved. In the style all his own Spurgeon presents the gospel in a way that is thoroughly biblical and yet easily understood by anyone, even a child. Since its original publication over a century ago-- All of Grace has never been out of print. It is truly a Christian classic. This edition is newly typeset in a fresh modern typeface for the easy reading pleasure of the modern reader.

About the Author

By the age of twenty-one C.H. Spurgeon was the most popular preacher in London. He preached to crowds of ten thousand at Exeter Hall and the Surrey Music Hall. When the Metropolitan Tabernacle was built, thousands gathered every Sunday for over forty years to hear his lively sermons.

In addition to his regular pastoral duties, he founded Sunday schools, churches, an orphanage, and the Pastor's College. He edited a monthly church magazine and promoted literature distribution. Sincerely and straightforwardly he denounced error both in the Church of England and among his own Baptists.

Chapter 1To You

My intention in writing this message is that many will be led to the Lord Jesus. It is sent forth in childlike dependence on the power of God the Holy Spirit to be used in the conversion of millions if He so pleases. No doubt many men and women will read this volume and the Lord will bless them with grace. For this reason, the clearest language has been chosen and many simple expressions have been used. But if scholars should happen to glance at this book, the Holy Spirit can impress them, also. Oh, that some might read this who will become great winners of souls!

Who knows how many will find their way to peace by what they read here? A more important question for you is this: Will you be one of them?

A certain man placed a fountain along a busy road. Then, he hung a cup near to it by a little chain. He was told some time after that a great art critic had found much fault with its design. "But," said he, "do many thirsty people drink at it?" Then they told him that thousands of poor people, men, women, and children, quenched their thirst at this fountain. He smiled and said that he was not troubled by the critic's observation. He only hoped that on some hot summer's day the critic himself might fill the cup and be refreshed and praise the name of the Lord.

Here is my fountain, and here is my cup. Find fault if you wish, but do drink of the water of life. I only care for this. I would rather bless the soul of the poorest street cleaner or rag-gatherer than please a prince and fail to convert him to God.

Are you serious about reading these pages? If so, we are agreed at the outset. But, my goal is nothing short of your finding Christ and heaven. Oh, that we may seek this together! I do so by dedicating this book with prayer. Will you not join me by looking up to God and asking Him to bless you while you read? Providence has put these pages before you. You have a little spare time in which to read them, and you feel willing to give them your attention. These are good signs. Who knows, maybe the time of blessing has come for you. At any rate, "The Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts"(Hebrews 3:7-8).
