Every maiden in His Kingdom fitted the brief. They were all invited, and He desired the company of every single one. Our maiden had already disqualified herself from His presence, from His arms and from His palace, as her definition of 'eligible' was different to His. She was clearly listening to the wrong person, not to the One who was inviting her.
In the story of our maiden, we see a wrestle; she has been told one thing, but believes another. She has been given an invitation, an open door, and has been declared as eligible, yet still she looks to the past, letting it name her something else. You would think she would have to fight, but He fights for her. He shows her the truth. He makes His way towards her and will not stop pursuing her until she is His. Her rightful place is with Him; she knows it, and so does He. He will not let her give up on that truth, the truth that she belongs to Him. He shows her why He calls her eligible, He shows her the sacrifice He made for her to have that name. He makes it clear, the cost of her eligibility.
