Gr 9 Up—Insurance, investments, loans, and interest. Finances can be confusing and overwhelming even for adults, let alone teens, but series such as this one aim to teach young people how to be smart about money. Each title is devoted to a specific topic but all cover the same basic principles of spending and saving. McGuire uses an informal voice to explain Roth IRAs, financial aid, and the stock market, sometimes coming across as trying too hard, especially when slang is awkwardly employed. The design and layout also seems to have been created with teens in mind, but the result is chaotic and visually dissonant. While all of the books contain practical tips and advice, Making Money Work has the most coherent organization of information and is thus the most usable.
