Algae Biofuel
Robust population explosion, reduced natural resources, imbalanced human food and animal fodder production, reduced fertile land, receding fossil fuel reserve, enhanced GHG, larger emission of flue gases etc have brought the world scientists and biotechnologists to the threshold of exploring alternative energy sources, clean environment and food security for all living beings. All major plant feedstock being used for generating bio-fuel, the world over trap solar energy to convert it into chemical energy photosynthetically. These crops require agricultural land for cultivation and the bio-fuel outcome is poor and time consuming. Algae is a group of simplest, photosynthetic micro-organisms growing in discrete environmental conditions varying from fresh water to marine water, sewage water to domestic waste water, rivers to eutrophicated ponds etc. The photo-synthetic output of algae is much more higher than other plants and they are capable of traping more solar energy and carbon dioxide. Algae are rich in photosynthetic produce like carbohydrates, lipids, fatty acids, proteins etc. because of which algae seems to be the most potential feedstock for biofuel production and is called green energy. Present book provides detailed information about algae bio-fuel through the reviews and research articles contributed by internationally recognized scientists. The book is comprised of 18 articles on the topics like 21st century algae biofuel, heterotrophic production of lutein from Chlorella, indigenous bio-fuel production from algae, production of transgenic stains of algae for biofuel production, macroalgae for biofuel : a myth or reality, bio-pigments, bio-remediation and biofuel, algal turf scrubbers, carbon market for algae biofuel, carbon neutral bio-fuel from algae, assessment of commodity chemical feedstock from algae, algae biomass production for biofuel, cultivation and harvesting of oil producing algae in hybrid pond system etc. This compendium will be a land mark for the scientists, researchers and students who are concerned about the new generation biofuel production, nutrient from algae for animals and poultry and will lead to the new era of algal biotechnology.

Prof. S.K. Bhatnagar started his career as Lecturer of Botany at Bareilly College, Bareilly in 1977, Prof. Bhatnagar established Society for Plant Research in 1988 and started an International Research Journal VEGETOS which is being indexed by all major database. Prof Bhatnagar obtained Ph. D. in 1980, founded the department of Biotechnology at Bareilly College during 2003, carried out 10 research projects, produced 21 Ph. Ds, published more than 85 research papers in national and international journal, edited 7 research books, organized 6 national level conferences, delivered keynotes, invited lectures and Chaired sessions in various conferences. Presently, he is working as Professor and Head, Department of Cell Biology, College of Biotechnology, S.V.P. University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut. Prof. Bhatnagar visited various countries as INSA-COSTED fellow and as visiting scientists under INDO-GREEK program. He organized a mini symposium in 11th International Phycological Conference, NUI, Galway, Ireland and convened 1st Algae Biofuel Summit at New Delhi. He is actively engaged in promoting the cultivation of algal strains as oil feedstock, algal strains as the source of animal nutrient, enhancement of milk quality in cattles by using alternate food source, biodiversity conservation, transgenesis and micropropagation etc.

Mr Atul Saxena is the founder Chief Executive Officer of Growdiesel Climate Care Council. He is a technologist and turnkey project specialist with over 20 years of experience of executing large agro based projects. He launched Growdiesel on July 2nd, 2001 which is a renewable energy exploration and production organization dedicated to the cause of environment, energy & empowerment of masses. Growdiesel has also developed a proprietory catalyst free technology for production of Biodiesel from multiple feedstocks.Mr. Saxena is engaged in initiation of multiple projects for development technologies to create Growdiesel BioCrude™, a renewable liquid fuel, which can replace fossil/petroleum crude oil in existing refineries (without any modifications) to produce carbon-neutral transportation fuels. He developed a low cost enclosed Photobioreactor system to produce Algae for Biofuels. Mr.Saxena is currently working on a project of converting Sunlight, non-potable water, all kinds of wastes and CO2 to sustainable carbon negative Growdiesel BioCrude™ that can be converted to high quality liquid biofuels as Hi-cetane Green Diesel and Aviation turbine fuel”. for rapid adoption by farmers and entrepreneurs.
