About the Author

Ed Hale is an avid outdoorsman, outdoor writer who has hunted with both Bow and Rifle for 50 years. Ed enjoys outdoor writing as a way to stay connected to hunting not just as a sport but as a way of life. His marksmanship skills with Rifle, Pistol and Bow have earned competitive awards as well as awards by family member for providing meat for the table. Ed believes in the importance the social connection of hunting in the family and away from the TV that our couch potato society brings. He also believes in being prepared and staying connected to the hunter-gatherer within us in a modern day world where social structure and the friendly supermarket may one day either be too expensive or shut down by energy shortages or perhaps even a national disaster.
Ed is a former director of the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation and has earned degrees in Environmental science and business science that add to his skill in educating the public. He learned to deer hunt with his father in the 1960's in New Hampshire. As an archer, he built several own "self" longbows of hickory, ash, maple and Osage but hunts with a Compound Bow. Ironically, he love rifles as much and reloads his own ammo for fun and accuracy.
After graduating high school Ed enlisted in the US Navy in 1969 and served aboard the USS James K Polk, a nuclear missile submarine. After the Navy, he received an Associates degree in Environmental Science and worked for AT&T Network Systems as a Quality Engineer.
In the late 1980's Ed became fed up with the anti-hunting sentiment and became involved with the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation where he was a Director for several years. Ed is also a past director for Granite State Bowhunters and ran the 3D Archery program for a local club. Over the last 25 years or so, Ed has written many articles about his hunting and fishing exploits and instructed for New Hampshire Fish and Game in hunter and International bowhunter education. In 2003, he went back to college and graduated with highest honors with a BS from Daniel Webster College in business management. This book "African Safari -- Rifle and Bow and Arrow" is as a result of one of his dreams and goals, to travel to Africa with my son Jason and hunt big game. Join with Ed and Jason on this Safari as you experience the rush of adrenaline and a hunt of a lifetime. This book was written so you too can plan your hunt of a lifetime to Africa. Good Hunting! Always remember to "Dream Big"!
