Adolescent Sexuality - Too Much, Too Soon
Adolescence is a prominent growing stage. It is often a stage prone to vulnerability and confusion. And amid this growing process begins sexual development. So how, as a parent, do you approach your teenaged son or daughter to discuss sexuality?

In his second book, Dr. John E. Perito explores the dynamics of adolescent sexuality and religion. By discussing psychological and spiritual principles, Dr. Perito provides parents with the tools needed to guide their child down a path of emotional, spiritual, and sexual maturity. Dr. Perito examines such topics as puberty, sexual behaviors of adolescence, marriage, pregnancy, and homosexuality. He brings an educated and spiritual outlook on such sexual topics in order to help parents help their son or daughter develop into a healthy lover and parent. The book also focuses on a sexual attitude survey that discusses such topics as abortion, premarital sex, and sexually transmitted diseases. The survey informs parents of what people believe today about sex and what their adolescent child may already know about sex. Dr. Perito presents a refreshing approach to sexual ethics in his book that will give readers the skills needed to understand and approach adolescent sexual development.

About the Author

When I was in college I studied to be a priest. After I decided that I did not want to lead a celibate life, I changed my course and became a doctor. I have always been fascinated by the interplay between soul and body. After earning my medical degree, I went into psychiatry.

During my years of practice as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, I was often focused on psychosexual development and its interplay with spirituality. For several years, I was on the faculty of the Christian Institute for the Study of Human Sexuality. My experience on the faculty helped to crystallize the focus for my writings.

In my first book, Contemporary Catholic Sexuality, What is Taught and What is Practiced I was able to express some of the shifting sexual attitudes and behaviors occurring over the past fifty years. In this present book, I have attempted to help parents, teachers, and clergy guide adolescents so that they can achieve the essential goals of becoming committed lovers and effective parents.
