If you study Lake Hattie, you won’t see Adam’s yacht anywhere, because it’s stuck in cement on the shore. With a huge home on a boat, Adam soon fills it with friends, who help him try to solve a murder before he’s charged as the killer!
After Adam saved his life and wallet, Brother John, a self-ordained preacher, hires Adam as bodyguard to watch his back from a convicted felon out to get him. Fleeing the Feds, who would prefer sending Lucas John into the witness protection program, the pair hide out while doing service in a backwater church where Adam’s cover is organist and gofer.
They soon discover that the deacon, soloist, and women’s leader are not as pious as they would have people believe. The soloist’s husband left a big Nevada utility firm as CEO with a golden parachute, though on the run armed with stockholders’ and employees’ dividend and pension funds. Now he and the deacon are mixing it up with a handful of the city’s wheelers and dealers to bilk citizens of their funds.
Seeing himself as the knight riding up to save the gentle lady held captive in her husband’s mansion, Adam falls hard for Betsy, which makes him an adulterer in the eyes of his preacher-boss and half the congregation. Yet there are those who would convince Adam that Betsy is not what she appears, even though she sobs out her fears of wife-beater-CEO hubby on Adam’s big strong shoulders.
Solving these crimes that center on the little church brings Adam’s family and friends together on his yacht. They must follow the trail of a century-old crime before they can unravel the threads of the current mystery. As for healing his broken heart, Adam will have to rely on his own resilience to dry up his tears.
