About the Author

Zoran Mirkovic was born in 1937 in Serbia. In addition to being a distinguished physician, Zoran Mirkovic has been active in the art scene of Serbia and former Yugoslavia for over forty years. Over the years he has been exploring the phenomenon of sound. By using instruments built from wood he staged several multimedia performances including: “Home-made music” (in collaboration with Ernö Kirally; Novi Sad, Serbia, 1980); “The visualization of sound” (Zagreb, Croatia, 1983); “ Creation of the World” (Zagreb,Croatia,1987), TV show “Six ways to write a novel” (Novi Sad, Serbia, 1992). The "Protophysics" trilogy has served as inspiration for the experimental music project "Acoustics" recorded by the duo "Blank Disc"(Serbia,2008). In 2009 his art was exhibited at the Stalzer art gallery in Vienna, Austria. Several of his instruments and installations are part of the permanent collection of the Macura Museum of Contemporary Art (vicinity of Belgrade, Serbia). His poetry, assays and short stories have been published in renown literary magazines in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary. The novels “The Prophetess” and “The triumph of virtue” have been awarded the Stylos award and the Karolj Simai award. His two most recent novels “Semiramis” and “Invisible” have been shortlisted for the NIN award – one of the most prestigious literary awards in Serbia today. Zoran Mirkovic lives in Novi Sad.
