About the Author

Robert E. Vardeman has published more than 100 novels and scores of short stories in his 40 year career. He writes fantasy, sf, mysteries, steampunk and high-tech thrillers in addition to westerns both traditional and weird. Jackson Lowry and Karl Lassiter are two of those awards-nominated pen names. He worked as an instructor for Longridge Writers Institute from 2006 until 2014. He has been on the editorial staff for FSWA award-winning fantasy football magazines since 2007 and has co-edited anthologies (with Scott Phillips) Career Guide to Your Job in Hell and (with Joan Spicci Saberhagen) Golden Reflections. In addition to being a mentor for graduate level writing students at Arizona State University, he works on the staff of www.22Literary.com He lives in Albuquerque, NM and enjoys the high-tech hobby of geocaching.


Geo. W. Proctor began his career writing science fiction, fantasy and westerns after leaving his job as reporter for the Dallas Morning News. In almost 30 years, he wrote 96 novels under a series of pen names, including Clay Tanner and Hank Mitchum (westerns) and was a Spur Award nominee for BLOOD OF MY BLOOD. His sf titles included STARWINGS and THE ESPER TRANSFER, as well as the media tie-in V:CHICAGO CONVERSION. With Robert E. Vardeman, he co-authored the nine titles in the SWORDS OF RAEMLLYN series. In the mid-'90s he became an instructor at the University of Texas, Arlington, in the journalism and communications department, responsible for teaching five different courses, a post he held until his untimely death in 2008.
