Overview

This book was written to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of America's involvement in WWI. Although Europe had been at war for three years, the United States did not declare war on Germany till April 6, 1917. The 42nd Rainbow Division shipped out on October 19, 1917. Aboard that flotilla heading for Europe was my grandfather, Charles Edward Reed, and my great-uncle, George Wilbur "Bill" Reed. This book follows Charles and Bill, who served much of their time together, and both kept records of their journey.
