Not that world, no way
A few million years from now, there aren't any more humans alive on Earth. On the very warm planet, much of the interior of the continents is arid desert where only a handful of small animals and plants can exist. On the coasts, however, a civilization of intelligent amphibians thrives. After they had mapped and explored their world, they found their way across the solar system and space beyond it. But they have only a rudimentary understanding of the history of their species and environment.
Sem is a young person who loves to cook and experiment with food. He especially likes developing fancy dishes with the meat of the tiny monkeys which the amphibians breed in farms and also capture in the wild. Sem is very close to his older sister, Pona, with whom he sometimes mates. She is recruited to join an archaeological project in the dangerous, fiery desert many times zones away from their home on the ocean shore. Pona is extremely skilled at using the archaeologists' specialized scanning equipment and makes a discovery that would revolutionize the amphibians' sense of themselves, their home planet, and their place in the universe.
Pona's findings are not acceptable. They belong to a world that must not be allowed to have existed. Not then, not now.
