A WINTER PILGRIMAGE, Being an Account of Travels through Palestine, Italy, and the Island of Cyprus, accomplished in the Year 1900
In this book, Haggard describes his visits to Florence, Pompeii, Naples, Cyprus, Syeria, Palestine and closes his trip at Jerusalem.

A large portion of this volume which is devoted to Cyprus which takes up about a third of the 355 pages and is perhaps the most noteworthy, as dealing with a region that was comparatively little known and little written about at the time of this book's publication. Considerable attention is paid to the condition of the island, that at the time, was under English rule.

Haggard has an eye for the things that interest, and his book is entertaining.

About the Author

About The Author

Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author of adventure novels set in exotic locales, predominantly Africa. King Solomon’s Mines, one of his best-known books, details the life of the explorer Allan Quartermain. She: A History of Adventure followed, introducing the character Ayesha. While much of Haggard’s reputation stems from those two books and their subsequent series, he also wrote nonfiction and short stories.
