About the Author

Tom White was an officer on active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve from January 1944 to October 1946, serving on an LSM (Landing Ship Medium) chiefly in the West Pacific, including in the Battle of Okinawa. He graduated from Harvard College in November 1943, as of the CLass of 1944. In later years he was mostly a journalist. His last employment ended in 2001 after 17 years with Highlights for Children Magazine.
