Overview

Most of us in this world are blessed in different ways. However, there are people out there who spent their lives under the curtains of suffering and misery. I am one of those who saw the darkest side of life at the age of 4 when my father used to attack my mom in front of me. I was traumatized by the cold relationship between my mother and father. Due to this, I had to learn to cope in silence and think of my future as the only way to escape. Just as we say, after every hardship, breakthroughs are waiting for you. I was quite hopeful of turning the tides in favor of my destiny. I started to see the positive side of my life where I could discover my talent and identity to achieve something bigger than myself, helping those who are suffering. This is my story! A story that is bound to keep you immersed and turning pages as the pain unfolds. It's a never-ending roller coaster journey where fantasies blend with the harsh realities of life which teach us the sole purpose of this life.

About the Author

Tahjanae D. Northcutt, a California native with a love for the sunshine and warm beaches, grew up in the inner city of South-Central Los Angeles. Raised by her dad as a result of her mother being assaulted by her own cousins and put out of her home, and forced into homelessness, she experienced a traumatic childhood searching for love and belonging. Tahjanae was determined to escape through her successes while spending her life searching for untold answers. Tahjanae graduated high school with honors, was accepted into multiple universities, and chose Washington State as part of her ultimate plan to leave behind her troublesome life in South Central. She gave birth to her first child and graduated to return home to attend graduate school later.
Tahjanae returned home to find her dad experiencing hardship and alcoholism, while her mother recovered from her abuse and homelessness and doing well. She gave birth to her daughter and graduated with her Master of Science degree in counseling with an emphasis on Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy while working full-time at UCLA. Tahjanae felt her passions were unfulfilled and had the desire to help those less fortunate. Therefore, she entered into non-profit social services providing therapy, leading homeless outreach teams across the Los Angeles and Santa Monica areas, and as director in women’s residential programs providing treatment to women that were experiencing substance abuse and homelessness.
Upon her father’s death, Tahjanae was inspired to expand her talents and fulfill her dream of owning her own business and dedicated it to her dad and stepdad, who both suffered from substance abuse and died as a result. Tahjanae is the CEO/President of her outpatient substance treatment and multi-service center in Los Angeles, Shake Loose, Inc., which provides support to those experiencing substance use, homelessness, and Mental Health disorders. Tahjanae realized a need in the community that served her well in her childhood was crucial. She decided to re-organize and re-establish the Los Angeles Demos Elite youth sports club association, Inc. as president and currently serves the youth through sports programs in South Central Los Angeles. Tahjanae also serves her community as a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Century City Alumni Chapter member
