A Trip to Arete
Aristotle said a life of pleasure is for uncultivated beasts. And in the world of Appetitive, pleasure is the alpha and omega.

In 3014, society places the highest premium on constant titillation. People are addicted to vacationing around illusion-generating screenwalls, customizing pleasurebots, shopping at Black Friday Everyday and, of course, Miss Sweden plastic surgery at Beauty Queen Express. The media never reports any serious events, but solely spews around-the-clock coverage of celebrity minutiae.

Kevin Reed's dream is to become famous. But will becoming a Celeb God really make him fulfilled? Will the abundant saccharine praise from his minions satiate his ego? Perhaps it will take an arduous trip to Arete to find truth. Devoted to virtue and knowledge, it's a world light years away in philosophy from Appetitive.

Embark on a journey with Kevin Reed as he lives in two diametrically opposed worlds, one of hedonism and the other of Eudemonia excellence.

*All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Children's Cancer Association. With a four-star charity rating, Portland-based CCA has brought joy and happiness to many seriously ill children.

About the Author

Jane Dawson's college philosophy teacher instilled a true love of wisdom in her heart. After learning about Aristotle, Jane was determined to make virtue ethics relevant to everyone. Although written 2,400 years ago before massive consumerism and celebrity worship, Aristotle's work had a lot to say about achieving well-being in life. Combining an important moral philosophy with a captivating story set in 3014, Jane's debut novel is sure to leave the reader asking the biggest ethical question: What is true happiness? Like the gadfly Socrates, Jane wrote this book to provoke conversation and thinking. She will be donating 100% of the proceeds to a Portland-based charity.
