Overview

Thirteen-year-old Corey Bright's world has been rocked and changed forever as she leaves Winnipeg, Canada for her new life in the States. Having been raised in a proper, constrained environment, she leaves behind her bestie Winny, a Cree whose visions align with hers. Little does Cory realize how prophetic and earth shattering these visions will prove as her new life in America unfolds.

On her first day of middle school in Lissing Valley, Corey befriends Zoe Gonzalez with whom she forms a profound, enduring bond. Their amiable encounter is enhanced as they discover to have experienced similar dreams; dreams which are a harbinger of trials and tribulations which they and the world face. For Winny's vision had not been Cree folklore easily dismissed. Mother Nature was about to demonstrate her great displeasure concerning the way in which she had been mistreated.

Three years after the color-draining phenomenon, Lissing Valley's Mayor William Blake is crowned King William the First, in a coronation ceremony attended only by Elites. With trumpets blaring and drums thundering, the crowd of Elites shout, "Long live the Elites!" and "Bless you Mother Nature!" But for all the Commoners, who'd been barred from the coronation, the only recourse now is revolution and the overthrow of the monarchy. White, Jamaican, and Mexican cultures are colorfully displayed in this multi-generational tale of a desperate search for meaning and refuge in a world gone mad with greed, power, and self-delusion. The primary protagonists are four teens, facing a life of death struggle to free their town from the clutches of an absurd guru, cruel polite chief, and an absurd monarchy all a while forging romances.

About the Author

I am a former U.S. Navy photographer, holding a multiple subject and special education credential from CSUN. I was a teacher for SED Children in the Burbank Unified School District, working with teens. I’ve completed a memoir of my youth, as an anthology. I spend the preponderance of my spare time in coffee shops and hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains. I have found solace writing prose and poetry. I belong to a book club and am an active member of a poetry site, where I’m part of a supportive and creative community. Regular hiking and distance walking keep my body healthy and thoughts stirring—a sound mind and body.
