Overview

Kyle Murchison Booth, archivist at the Parrington Museum, has heard of Thirdhop Scarp. Everyone has. The house has been notorious ever since the night that homeowner J.A. Cathcart murdered his entire family, and was found cupping the heart of his eldest daughter in his hands as tenderly as he would a wounded bird.

It is not the first time the house has experienced unsettling events. And it will not be the last.

Now the new owner of Thirdhop Scarp, one Marcus Oleander, is gathering an esoteric order at the house, including Miss Griselda Parrington, daughter of the museum's founder. The museum director demands that Mr Booth discredit Oleander's occult teachings and end his influence over the credulous Miss Parrington. Reluctantly, Mr Booth joins the weekend séance.

About the Author

Sarah Monette and Katherine Addison are the same person. She was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, one of the three secret cities of the Manhattan Project. She got her BA from Case Western Reserve University, her MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Despite being summa cum laude, none of her degrees are of the slightest use to her in either her day job or her writing, which she feels is an object lesson for us all. She has published more than fifty short stories, seven solo novels, and three collaborations with her friend Elizabeth Bear. The Goblin Emperor won the 2015 Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel and was a finalist for the Hugo, the Nebula, and the World Fantasy Award. The Angel of the Crows was nominated for the 2021 Locus Award. She lives with her spouse, cats, and books, somewhere near Madison, Wisconsin.

Matt Godfrey was raised on O'Connor, Welty, and Lee, and spent most of his teenage years in Yoknapatawpha County. But he traveled wherever the books took him, from Alabama to Tokyo, Twain to Murakami. Now he has the privilege of bringing those books to life as an audiobook narrator. He works in all genres and in a lot of accents, but specializes in his beloved Southern Gothic. He is a two-time nominee for the Society of Voice Arts & Sciences Awards and the Audiobook Reviewer Listener's Choice Awards. He has a fully equipped home studio and works with major publishers, small presses, and indie authors alike.
