About the Author

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a Scottish writer and physician best known for creating the iconic character Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and later practiced as a doctor. However, it was his writing that brought him lasting fame.

Doyle's first Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet," was published in 1887, introducing readers to the brilliant detective and his loyal friend Dr. John Watson. Holmes's keen powers of observation, deductive reasoning, and eccentric personality captivated audiences, making him one of the most enduring characters in literature.

Over the years, Doyle wrote three more novels and fifty-six short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes, cementing his status as one of the most influential mystery writers of all time. Despite his success with Holmes, Doyle also wrote historical novels, science fiction, poetry, and non-fiction works.

Beyond his literary career, Doyle was involved in various social and political causes, including advocating for justice reform and campaigning against injustices like the wrongful conviction of George Edalji.

While Sherlock Holmes remains his most famous creation, Doyle's contributions to literature extend far beyond detective fiction, earning him a lasting legacy as one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era.
