About the Author

Robley Dunglison Evans (1846–1912) served in the United States Navy for more than forty years, eventually attaining the rank of Rear Admiral. He made a number of significant contributions to the U.S. Navy, and his skillful handling of a tense situation with Chile earned him the nickname “Fighting Bob Evans.”  He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
