Lint is part of a material that once belonged to some article of clothing or perhaps a favorite comforter, but now is something to be discarded, a nuisance. This is how Micky felt. Micky never understood his feelings of self-doubt and he never understood why he could feel so alone in a room filled with people. Micky believed that the only way to deal with these disturbing feelings was to try his best to not feel anything at all and the best way to do that was through drugs.
