Overview

"I would highly recommend this book to fans of speculative fiction, anyone interested in the potential paths our world might take, and readers who enjoy stories with deep, engaging characters and rich world-building. This novel is well worth your time." - Diamond Harrell - Reedsy Discovery

The last soul on the planet of Galleant let out his last breath, and another age of man had passed. While the Patrons of the Realm mourned the loss, little did they know that their next decision - an experiment born of desperation - would reverberate across the heavens. For the first time in their history, A New Age of Man will be given access to the magical powers of the Source.

Arran turned and froze. The sourcestone was no longer the weathered grey of his youth. It was glowing vibrantly with the sigil of Talon, the Patron of Intelligence, a single dagger crossing a book.

"What the...?"

Arran had not expected much on his Source Day. No one in his family had ever been gifted. He would say his prayers, ceremonially pass into adulthood, and embark down the path of taking over his father's smithy. That is, until the sigil of Talon appeared on the sourcestone. Thrust into the midst of Patron Talon's intelligence training at the vaunted School of Meitellen, he will come to discover a new passion, friends that will become as family, and a mystery of deceit and corruption crossing the entire continent.

About the Author

Where to begin. How about college? I got my B.S. in Biochemistry from Oklahoma State University with the intention of med school, specifically Ophthalmology. That didn’t quite pan out as I was really tired of school at the time. I told myself what a lot of people tell themselves, ‘I can always go back’. Yeah…I ended up moving to Wichita, KS where I met my lovely wife Holly and eventually working for a local chemical company. I bounced around through various jobs at the plant before turning my IT hobby into a career. I had an aptitude for computers and back in the 90’s you didn’t need to have a specific degree in computer science as much as you do now to work in that field. And so it began. I have turned that hobby into a 30+ yr. career. Kind of fortunate really.

So, how did I come to this point and decide that throwing my entry into the giant pot that is self published books was something I really wanted to do? The truth is, I guess it has been brewing for some time. Over Thanksgiving and Christmas break in 2022 I had the urge to revisit all the snippets and pages I had jotted down over the years. I’ve done this before, enjoying the trip down memory lane, maybe writing down a few more ideas or adding to the existing ones, but this time felt different. I actually had an urge to finish something. So, I collected everything together from Google Drive, iCloud and Dropbox, surprised to find some documents dating back to 1999. I went through them all, and from that coalesced the idea of A New Age of Man. What about a fantasy magic origin story? I started writing down my ideas and quickly came to what I thought was a decent story arc and here we are.

When I’m not writing you can find me hanging out with Holly watching some new drama or crime show, cheering on all of my alma mater’s various sports teams, gaming on the PC and PS5, and of course reading. I’m what you might call a voracious reader. I give a lot of credit to my parents and grandparents who encouraged my reading enthusiasm throughout my youth. Getting a new Hardy Boy’s book, Stephen King novel or anything SciFi/Fantasy related was always a treat.
