The sobering reality is that Black and Brown families rarely have conversations about "Black Excellence" due to socioeconomic disadvantages related to racism. These disadvantages prevent Black families from excelling and make it even harder for some to foresee what could be outside of poverty. There is no denying that education is the lifeline to not only escaping poverty but towards Black Excellence and a better quality of life. However, upon examining the history of inequities that Black families experience from anti-literacy laws to segregated schools. We see that racism is a huge indicator of the endless disparities and near-impossible obstacles that continue to impact Black families and their pursuit of obtaining wealth.
