Ben's life is one big joke. Depressed and suicidal, he isn't holding out much hope. His mother is cold and vile towards him, he has a lack of friends, and school isn't much easier for him. One day, he sees the most beautiful person, a young woman named Ruby, who gives him a new lease on life. This, and a sudden share of new friends, allows Ben to feel slightly better about himself and the world around. On a school field trip, Ben and one of his new friends stumble across a very old cave, appearing to be completely devoid of life. Upon further investigation, the boys find a false wall, and a shrine, centered around an ancient beast of Native American lore, who takes the form of a large wolf. At the center of this shrine lies a mask carved of pure bone. Ben begins to hear voices in his head, as the mask begins to whisper sweet thoughts and fantasies into his mind. Ben takes the mask and places in his face, with the promise of greatness and power. The mask then becomes fused with the boy. Ruby and their friends try and help Ben be rid of this new "supposed" ally. Death and violence are now Ben's life, as the soul of this cruel God will do anything to stay where it is. As this is all happening, a secret society, who sole job was to keep watch over the mask, discovers Ben's identity, and is now the target of this group. An event is about to unfold in this small town, forever changing all who live there.
