Overview

When her pastor arrives at her doorstep with David Harper, a stranger looking for work, the young widow, Rachel Miller, agrees to provide room and board in exchange for help on her farm in Missouri. David prepares to travel with the 1843 wagon train across the Oregon Trail and proposes marriage to Rachel. Her decision to accept is based on her need for a husband and a father for her three young children.

Can Rachel overcome her guilt at re-marrying so soon after her husband's death? How will the children feel about accepting a new father they barely know?

The hardships of the journey west can either bring the couple together or destroy hopes of ever having a marriage based on love.

About the Author

My deepest roots are here in Pennsylvania, though I was born in New York State and lived in New Jersey and Connecticut for the first twenty years of my life. The beauty of Pennsylvania and the variation in the seasons and topography have gotten into my soul, and I hope to spend the rest of my life here.

Married over forty years to a very special man who loves me just the way I am, I’m also the mother of five adult children and grandmother to eight amazing kids.

I believe in Jesus Christ and pray for direction in my writing. Not all has been roses in my life. I had a divorce many years ago and know the pain of rejection. I've had illnesses, watched my children suffer, lost my parents, and known failure. Perhaps, for all these reasons, I feel a need to share through my writings. Perhaps a thought, a chapter, even a sentence might help a fellow human in some small way.
