Overview

A Life Devoted to Writing: Festschrift in Honor of Dacia Maraini is the most complete collection of critical essays ever published on Dacia Maraini. The detailed Introduction, the twenty critical essays, and the updated bibliography cover the most important aspects and themes of Maraini's life and works, such as the conditions in Japanese internment camps during WWII, her formative years in Sicily and then in Rome, violence against women, violence against children, gender, feminism, prostitution, sexuality, love, diversity and inclusion, among others.
To attempt to organize this vast collection of papers, the volume is divided into sections, including, but not limited to, a chronological sequence of Maraini' writings, their major themes and literary gender, starting from an analysis of her first novel La vacanza (1962), up to her latest one entitled Trio (2020) written during the pandemic.
