About the Author

Professor John William Allen (1865-1944) was a Professor of History at Bedford College, University of London. He was also a prolific author of historical and educational texts, including The Place Of History in Education (1909), Germany and Europe (1914), The World: For Senior Students (1930), A History of Political Thought in the Sixteenth Century (1928; revised 1957), and English Political Thought, 1603-1644 (1938). He passed away in 1944.
