Overview

It's Hiccup's birthday, but that's not going to keep him from getting into trouble. To save his dragon, Toothless, from being banished, Hiccup must sneak into the Meathead Public Library and steal the Viking's most sacred book. But the Vikings see books as a dangerous influence, and keep them locked up and under heavy guard.

To save his friend, Hiccup must brave the Hairy Scary Librarian and his dreadful army of Meathead Warriors and face off against the formidable Driller-Dragons. Will he make it out and live to see his next birthday?

A Hachette Audio production.

Editorial Reviews

DECEMBER 2013 - AudioFile

David Tennant uses his Scots brogue to full enthusiastic effect as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third and his Viking and dragon friends brave Driller Dragons, Red Hot Itchyworms, and the Hairy Scary Librarian to steal a book from the forbidden library. Crowell's book is silly, clever fun, and Tennant makes the most of every over-the-top character (Big-Boobied Bertha is a favorite), improbable situation, and funny anachronism. There's even a subversive message about the importance of books and a lesson in translating Dragonese, which Tennant delivers with giggle-inducing gusto. Listeners will be charmed and entertained and will want to seek out the whole series (especially before the second HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON movie arrives on the big screen in 2014).
