Overview

In his debut short story collection, J. Dane Tyler introduces A Fine Cast of Characters to fans of horror fiction.

Meet Rose, a young entrepreneur trying to open a bakery in a run-down part of town. She got a great deal on a building and low-interest start-up loans from a town trying desperately to change the image of the neighborhood. But Rose got more than she bargained for when the contractor she hired to renovate the building discovers a staircase under the floor boards which doesn't appear on any of the architectural drawings, and the metal door at the bottom marked "DO NOT ENTER."

Kelly won a fishing cruise from her favorite radio station aboard the charter boat "Lucky Caller Seven" -- great news! But when a strange storm rolls over the boat and leaves them inexplicably powerless and adrift, Kelly's luck begins to change, and the mysterious ship drifting out of the thick, blanketing fog only makes her more uncomfortable. But it's moving, so that's good luck. Or is it? Suddenly, Lucky Caller Seven doesn't feel so lucky anymore.

A young man meets a captivating young woman dancing under the moon on the beach. She speaks as though she's familiar with him, knows him somehow. But he discovers she has a past she's hiding and his memory may not be all it should be, no matter how many times she asks him to "Remember Me."

Martin wants to kill himself tonight. He's about to do just that after getting drunk and tottering to the bridge spanning "Over Troubled Waters" of the river roaring below. But a stranger from out of nowhere has a few things to say to Martin, and when he's done, Martin's going to realize jumping off that particular bridge wasn't the best move he could have made that night. And it's not because of the kindness of strangers, either.

About the Author

J. Dane Tyler works in an office by day but writes by night. He's been published, under a pseudonym, in the UK for technical how-to books on a variety of topics. When he's not writing and reading and sleeping, he enjoys spending time with his loving and supportive family, who encourage him. He lives with those very patient people in northeaster Illinois, where he spends most of the year whining about the weather.
