A Dream and a Prayer (One Mans Journey) is the refreshing of my spirit through prayer and meditation. I am alone and lost in a cold dark world with no place to turn except to the author and finisher of life its self. I am seeking relief and comfort while trying to open my heart to a new life of perfect love through Jesus Christ. These poems are the beginning of a once lost hope for a bright future. I am exploring myself and the means to change the tattered and torn wretch of a man that I had become. I can only hope that my life experiences, strengths, weakness, successes, and failures help others to reach out and take hold of their lost dreams and make them into a reality.

About the Author

I am a high school graduate with some college in my background. I am currently working on a novel. I have been writing poetry since I was a child and therefore It seemed practical to compile a book filled with what my heart desires most, to share the love of God with his creation. I am from Galesburg, IL; home of Carl Sandburg and I believe that his work has inspired a passion inside of me for poetry. Though our styles of writing are different our love for expressing our attitudes and feelings with words is obviously the same. Growing up an orphan has made constructing a stable life difficult. I put myself through many hardships by believing the lie that I'd never amount to much. I want to let the readers know that even in the most difficult of situations, Jesus Christ has never left or forsaken me. I can dare to dream again and so can you.     Break Free

    Break Free-be washed in the blood of the lamb
    Break free-we're blessed by the great I Am
    If all I ever do is sing you praise-I'm free
    My hearts been restored to him ... Break Free

    I'm working my fingers—to the bone
    Waiting for Jesus—to carry me home
    Now, home is a place where I lay my head
    But when he returns it's where I'll rest my heart
    And home is the place where I'm loved by God
    And when Jesus comes back then forever starts

    Now, Break Free ...

    I carry the gospel—everywhere I go
    You see, we're all Gods children—and He loves us so
    So-pick up your cross and follow him and be prepared for his return
    So-pick up your cross and follow Christ-Yeah let's love and honor him

    I Can't Keep On

    I can't keep on walking down-this same old road that I've been walking
      down
    I got to pick up my feet and step into-A different part of town
    I said I can't keep on walking down-this same old road-that I've been
      walking down

    Here it is and there it goes—superficial love is all I've known
    I'm with you and now I'm gone-we're both alone so no one's won
    Here I go again—

    I found love and now it's gone-my broken heart is all alone

    And I don't understand your spiteful anger
    You're too quick to fight-and you don't have the right
    To saturate my life with your slander

    But I can handle you-and everything you do
    I've found the perfect way-to forgive the things you say

    Yeah-70 times 7-I forgive you my friend
    I said-70 times 7-I'll love you till the end

    Well, here they come-biting at my back
    I'm under attack-and there's no place to hide: from your lies
    I'm mocked and scorned by the dark-but that won't stop my heart
    From radiating love through the light of Christ

    God's humble love will always say-I forgive you for the hate

    Home to Me

    Did you hear me call your name out loud last night?
    I prayed for God to bring you home to me
    Too many times I sit alone and pray
    I pray for you to come safely home to me

    The sun comes up as the door slams shut-here you come stumbling in
    My tear stained pillow soaks up another drop-as I wonder where you've
      been
    Why couldn't it be that you were here with me instead of living in
      adulterous sin?
    My lonely broken heart has cracked a little more-cause I know you were
      out with him

    There's liquor on your breath and your hair is all a mess-please don't try
      to lie
    I try to be patient then the pain overwhelms me-again I start to cry

    I've heard it all before-I can't take it anymore-then you ask for another
      try
    I forgive you cause I love you-then you promise me again-not to see that

    Then I came back in your life

    Life's not over-I've been restored by
    Faith and hope in-the perfect love of Christ
    My hearts still beating-though it's been shattered
    One more last time-it's the perfect lie

    Don't Let Go

    I've been captured by your love-hold me tight and don't let go

    My heart rests in your grace. Won't you give me life and don't let go
    Lord, inspire me-not to let her go.

    My spirit rests in peace-with a patient enduring faith

    Inside a Dream

    Wake me up-cause I'm dying inside a dream!
    Am I alone? No one can hear my screams!
    Where's my heart? Why can't I feel it beat?
    Restless sleep-cause I live inside a dream-yeah I'm dying inside a dream.

    The warning sign says detour-before you wreck your life
    Well, I'm to late-yeah I crashed and burned-I think I'm always right
    I need your help-am I still alone-I'll listen this time I swear.
    Take my heart-please hold my hand-I'm trembling with fear

    Sometimes I'm in control. I can regulate my thoughts.
    Other times I'm all alone-desperate and lost.
    What's that noise-is someone there-I can't find where you are
    I see perfect love within my soul-life shouldn't be this hard

    As She Cried

    I heard this love tale yesterday, the Lord he took a brides groom away—
    And nothing could be done to stop those tears form streaming down her
      face!
    Well, as she cried she said why oh why-must I live without him by my
      side.
    As she cried she said I'd rather die then live this life without him by my
      side.

    So I told her when God called him home-he knew you'd make a choice.
    You'd either live and die loving your groom-or you'll listen to his voice!
    Now, nothing is as it seems-everything will change—
    For better or worse-Jesus loves you-for all eternity.

    Well, as she cried she said why oh why-should I live without him by my
      side?
    And as she cried I prayed the Lord to find-A way to heal her broken heart
      and mind.
    Then as she cried she said I'd rather die than live this life without him by
      my side!

    Then I said-For God so loved the world-he gave his only Son.
    And everyone who believes in him-will live in perfect love.
    He's your bride groom now-take him by the hand—
    Honor Christ-be his bride-yes love that perfect man.

    Well as she cried she said why oh why-did I live without you by my side?
    And as she cried she said I'd rather die than live without Jesus by my
      side.
    So as she cried we prayed the Lord to find the love that heals broken hearts
      and minds.
    Yes, as she cried she said why oh why-did I live without you by my side?
    Then she sighed and as she dried her eyes-she thanked her father for the
      love of Christ
    Yes, as she cried she said I'd rather die than live without Jesus by my side.


    I Know that You Love Me

    I know that you love me Lord-I know that you care
    I know that you want me Lord-please just show me where
    I know that you love me Lord-I know that you care
    I know that you want me Lord-won't you show me where

    I want-what I want-when I want it—
    Down boy-okay let's rewind—
    I need-what I need when I need it—
    Whoa now-that don't sound right—
    I get-what I get when I get it—
    Stop-okay-one more last time—
    I want what I need then I get it-Praise God-this is his life!

    I receive what I've found because it's open—

    At one time I didn't know which way I needed to go
    To get back to the place-where I'd come from
    But even if I found my way back to where I was
    I might not recognize it for what it is

    I refuse to go again

    The things I thought were fun-they kept me on the run
    And now I'm sitting alone-as a hard case
    When I'd forgot the things I did all because of what I'd done
    I should have known to stop the things I was doing

    Well have you ever been there-without someone to love
    Have you ever been there-I refuse to go again
    So, have you ever been there-without a worldly friend
    Have you ever been there-I refuse to go again
    I'd been so dazed and confused by the things I used to do
    But now I'm what they call-REHABILITATED

    Believe me when I tell you-I couldn't figure my back from front
    I was down for so long-the only way left was up
    The way I saw my life right then-I was headed for a wreck
    So empty and alone inside-I was more than down on my luck

    But there's a faith in my heart that says I'll love again
    There's a hope within my soul that tells me to repent
    Well-I've turned and walked away form the only world I knew
    I left my past behind for good-thank you Lord-I love you

    Well there ain't too many things in this life I haven't tried
    I could give a list a mile long of times I nearly died
    When I met you I knew I'd found-my diamond in the rough
    So now I've made another list and this one says I love you
