Overview

Being healthy is a choice. But people need facts, not fiction to make the right decisions. Unfortunately, medical myths abound and once an idea takes hold, it's tough to dislodge. The result can be deadly: patients refusing to take life-saving medicines, parents withholding vaccines from their children, heart attack victims misreading the signs.

What's the "cure" for medical misinformation? Facts! Cold... Hard... Facts. In A Doctor's Cure for Medical Myths, Dr. Dominic Gaziano, a primary care physician who practices in inner-city Chicago, debunks 50 of the most common medical myths by providing peer-reviewed research and well-documented facts that support the truth. He offers his "50 teaspoons of truth to remedy medical misinformation," so the next time you hear someone spout off a medical myth, you're armed with the truth.

About the Author

Dominic Gaziano, M.D.—or Dr. G as his patients know him—has been a practicing physician for more than 25 years. As director of the Body and Mind Medical Center in Chicago, he brings together holistic, researched-based therapeutic strategies from both eastern and western medicine.

Dr. G believes the doctor-patient relationship should be based on more than just a once-a-year checkup or writing prescriptions. He thinks doctors should work hard to understand their patients’ stresses and medical history. He often uses talk therapy as the first line of defense in battling illness and is a relentless advocate for his patients.
