Overview

A Cherokee Indian boy, a runaway slave, and a future president of the United States share the adventure of a lifetime! The year is 1838. John, a thirteen-year-old Cherokee, is forced to leave his home in Georgia to walk what is now known as the Trail of Tears to the Oklahoma Territory. In Alabama, twelve-year-old Annie is a runaway slave traveling the Underground Railroad in her desperate search for freedom. When their paths cross during a blizzard in Kentucky, the pair agrees to travel on together. This "cord of three strands" becomes complete when John and Annie are joined on their journey by a young lawyer named Abraham Lincoln.
